Educate me
Please excuse the ignorance, but i really have no idea what the baffeling in pipes does. I was looking at the rush's and they come in 1.75, 2.0 etc.. Can someone please explain?
Also when i reading about stage 1, what kind of hp/tq improvements can one expect?
Thanks for the help.

Baffles control exhaust air flow/restriction or rate of flow/ and control exhaust backpressure and prevent reversion which is the term for a negative pressure wave that can suck ambient air back into the exhaust and cause an erroneous lean air fuel ratio. You usually get more flow with larger baffles and therefore mose exhaust sound or noise.
If you stage 1 a bike you can usually expect about a 10-15% increase in torque/horsepower. It is enough to be noticeable to the rider but won't blow your socks off.

When I got my 85 FXRP-S Back in 85, the dealers wrench and sales guy, said don't buy new pipes, just get on the bike. Hold the brakes on , one guy got in front to help me hold up the bike.the other two, one got a pry bar the other got a 12 lb mull, hammered that pipe up the stock mufflers and the pipes had the best sound, for the next 5 years guys always asked what pipes I had on that bike.
note: I said Dealer and not Stealer these guys were great and since we were in the early HOG chapter's we all rode together,
