Default 05 Dyna Superglide Lowering Question...Help

I have an 05 Super Glide and i am wanting to lower it. My stock shocks from eye to eye are 12.6". I am leaning more toward 11.5". Mainly looking for about a 1" drop. Progressive doesnt make a 412 shock in the 11.5" for my model and i dont want to spend just an arm and a leg going with the progressive 418's and up. Another option for me would be just get the Harley Low Rear Shock Kit which moves the bike down APPROXIMATELY 1".... which is what i am looking for but everyone i know that has used them it moves it about 3/4" (yea i am picky... i know your saying its only 1/4") I guess you could say i am going for a somewhat slammed look and i could always go to the 11" progressive 412's but then i would think i would get into a rubbing issue on larger bumps and so forth. HAS ANYONE GONE 11" PROGRESSIVE 412 WITH THEIR SUPERGLIDE... WHAT ABOUT RUBBING ISSUES, TIRE ISSUES, ETC.??? I noticed the wiring is on the inside of the rear fender running to the tail lights and brake like and i am worried about messing up those wires after a few good rubs.

To sum it all up has anyone gone 11" on superglide and what issues did they have and what are some other companies that make replacement shocks that i might could get an 11.5" (which is what i am really leaning towards). I see progressive all over the forum but what other good shock companies are out there??

Thanks for your help guys... i am new to this whole lowering issue.

I have an 06 Super Glide. I have a set of Progresssive 412-4037C 11" shocks on the rear. I tucked the wiring under the fender and have had no rubbing issues.

If you don't want to go 11", you could get a set of take-offs from a Street Bob or Low Rider. They are the same as the Low shocks available through Harley. The are approximately 11.75", eye to eye.

Keep in mind, the shorter the shock, the less travel you're going to have to soak up those really large bumps and potholes. You might or might not have clearance problems or a crappier riding bike, depending on your size, weight, riding style, etc. etc. If you're 6' and 225 lbs, the change will be a lot more noticeable that if you're 5'6 and 150 lbs and so on.

That being said, I am on my second set of 11.5" shocks on my 2004 FXD. It does ride a little stiffer, but not terribly and there have been no handling or bottoming out problems. Just my $.02.
