Default RE: poly bushings.... a problem

I have 16"s and poly bushings. I haven't noticed any problems but I'm about to change the risers so I'll check anyway.

Had 12.5"s for about 2 years before the 16"s. Also with poly bushings and when I changed the bars, the bolts were hard to remove.

Hope you don't mind me chiming in - don't figure the difference between a Dyna anda Softail is significant as far as bars are concerned.

I suspected I was the only one this happened to... a rare instance... It's the reason why I posted.

I put poly in mine. The rubber ones give too much and the constant flexing of the bolt will cause it to snap. I've seen it happen.

I have mini-apes, progressive suspension, poly bushings, plus 4" risers. Had a problem one time with them moving. I removed the bar clamp and had some old latex surgical gloves that I cut a couple pieces to wrap around the knurls. That was 4 years ago and have had no more problems.

But i really don't think it had anything to do with the poly bushings.

alright, i put the rubbers back in...and i gotta tell yah, i don't mind them...much less vibration through the bars and i don't so much mind the little 'give' .... i'm cool with them.... plus, when i removed the harley polys- and i'm sure i realized this when i put them in- there isn't a solid sleeve running through the center like the rubber ones

and 'reded' says that he knew someone's that had snapped...??... how's that possible when the grade 8 bolt is covered with a steel sleeve that runs the virtual length of the bolt? ....not saying it didn't happen, but damn... that would take some serious tensile force!

no prob. with mine and i do check them periodically.
used red loctite on everything when i assembled my bike so stuff falling off really hasnt been a problem.
i did have to retighten the bolts that go thru the bushings and clamp the risers to the triple trees.
they were locknuts so they didnt loosen.
i think the bushings just settled a bit
never hurts to throw a wrench (or an allen socket) on the important parts every now and again

Happened to my brothers WG. Grabbed the bars to lift it off the stand and roll it out of the garage and take off. When he lifted the bike, the bolt snapped and the bars pivoted on the one riser. Coulda been bad news if it happened 20 mins later!

i don't know, man....something wasn't right....i mean, i worked for NAPA for15 years and we sold grade 5 and grade 8 bolts to fleet accounts for repairs on some heavy duty equipment.... i mean, it takes-LITERALLY- over 16,000 pounds per square inch to snap a grade 8, 7/16 bolt, man!...and it would have to be subject to millions of cycles (amount of times subject to load or pull) at that rate...grade 2, definitely...grade 5, possible....but grade 8, no way!
