Default Primary Cover

ok guys I just went out and bought a set of Kury forwards, and looking at them I have a question about the primary cover. Does it leave a hole where the stock shift lever is located at, and if so how did you all cover it up besides buying a new primary cover..

Thanks

oh yeah I ride a FXDL 08..

I just put my Kury forwards on the other day and it should come with a little chrome cap that goes over where the shifter lever used to be. Looks OK but you could always cut out the old shaft and plug it with something less noticeable. I plan on leaving mine if I want to go back to the mids.

Not sure about the Kury controls, but Harley has a beauty cap for the hole. Works OK and cheaper than a new primary cover.

I had a set of Kuryakyn forward controled installed couple of years back. They left the old mid control gear nub in place. They say to take it out is a couple hours shops time..I think they quoted me like $350 or something in that neighborhood. Never seemed that big a deal so I never had it done. I've noticed that "most" people I've noticed have converted have left it as well...(not a scientific study).

Hello IslandRider

I just finished a post about Kurys just now and then seen yours as well so I copied what I wrote in the previous post and here it is

Do a search for forward control install and you will find SEVERAL posts about the inner primary. I did not remove the inner primary only the outer and replaced it with a different outer that does not have the hole. Depending on the kit you buy, it may come with a bracket to attach to the original shift linkage and a chrome cap to cover the existing spline.
I personally just pushed the existing mid control shaft back and wedged it behind the crank case bolt as others here have done and that is where I found the information about doing that.
Some have also just took a hacksaw blade and went underneath the bike and cut the shaft and removed it completely. Its all up to you. Here are a few links that I searched for you just now. Its really your decision on whether or not to remove the shaft.

I had to fix a tranny leak. While i had the inner primary off,i pulled out the shifter shaft. I used a small 3/8"bolt,some washers and hi-temp rtv to seal the shifter shaft hole on the inner pri.A new solid inspection cover,it looks that much better without that nib stickin' out.

can someone send mea pic with the chrome cover, I want an idea of what it will look like on my bike. Right now I am thinking about ordering a new primary cover and also the chrome inner primary as well since i might be taking both off. Sheesh didn't know it was going to cost me more for these forwards...

Dang it! I spent half a day removing the inner primary, $ on a new gasket and fluids. I wish I knew about cutting the dang thing off with a hacksaw.
