O.k. guys I have a problem here. When I'm riding my bike feels like it is tipsy. It does it at speeds above 50. I will be riding down the road and it feels like the bike is riding on the edge of the tire and then back. I have no clue what it is and it does it even when there is no wind. I also have a vibration when there is notload on the motor. If I down shift and run 65-70 in 5th thenits fine but when i shift to a higer gear it gets alittle vibration. It does this through 4,5,6th gears. Anyone have a clue what could be wrong?? Its almost scary sometimes to ride it.
Do you have spokes or cast wheels?
It sounds like the problems I went through with spokes loosening, was VERY unsettling on the highway. After 4 times in less than 2 years of havingto tighten them I ditched the spokes and have been riding smooth ever since.
Tipsy Bob,
I have an 02 Wide Glide, bought it on March 11th, most of my riding the first week was on back roads never getting over 60, when I moved to the highway at 70 to 72 the bike would start a swimming motion like a fish. Took it back to the Stealer and he tightened spokes and the triple tree, this fixed everything and the bike runs like an arrow at all speeds now. Like the other guy said it was very disturbing and the vibration increased intensly. Everything is fine now, like the other guy said spokes will do this from time to time but I'm keeping mine anyway, I like the old school look. Be safe, get your bike tightened up and most of all enjoy the ride.
Check for play in the spokes, and if you have any play, check the holes in the hubsand see if they have been elongated at all. If they have been, a simple tightening won't do much for you.
