Anyone found that the stealer used pipe dope on your drain plug instead of a new O'ring? Stealer did my 1k service as part of the purchase and when I changed it myself there was nothing left of the O'ring and it was covered in pipe dope? WTF?
The only drain plug I use pipe dope on is my primary plug due to the fact the plug is a pipe thread. The O ring issue would be hard to prove, thats a lesson learned. Now you should learn how to change your fluids, or have a riding partner teach/show you.
Yep, just found it doing my 1st home change @ 15k. I guess the stealership didn't want to spring for an o ring. This is what came off (new o ring at top)
Is the old o ring supposed to be that chewed up and distorted after one oil change??? Anyone using teflon tape instead?

I use teflon tape on all my drain plugs. Can never have enough sealing. Also use teflon on my muzzleloading rifle. Makes it easier to take apart for cleaning.

I changed my Oil at 1k and put new o-rings on then at 3k I changed fluids to install my Chrome Motor package. My o-oring was pretty ate up, not as bad as yours but was in bad shape.
Mine had some pipe goop on it when I changed my fluids. I just put new O rings on it and no more goop. I'll use goop and an O ring next time. Couldn't hurt.

I use a dab of wheel bearing grease on the threads of my primer/assy on my muzzy. Comes apart slicker than snot on a ****
I've had the same o-rings on all three drain holes, since new, for 17k miles. I've never seen the need to replace, they are always in good shape.
I do use teflon tape on primary plug, but only cuz I torqued to foot lbs instead of inch lbs the first time I did my own service.
I've read over the years that its common to use dope... i don't think the dealer did you a dis-service by doing it... probably did it in your best interest.
