I wear a half helmet with a half shield, one clear and one smoke colored. Easy to change just two screws. Lets you feel the wind and keeps the bugs from you glasses and eyes. I live in a small farming community and a lot of grasshoopers and other bugs during growing season. I bought mine at a HD dealer for $35.00 each, expensive but good choice. Don't know if you have these type of bugs in your area but \\; large grasshooper feels like a 10 pound rock on your chin and knees at 70 to 75, also \\; leaves a lot of residue on clohing and skin.
If I have to wear a helmet or if I wear one to deflect bugs I wear a novelty with a neck warmer and glasses. I sewed a piece of leather over my neck warmer and I put that over my nose/mouth for rain, bugs, wind whatever. I hate helmets. Wasps fly in them. \\;\\\\\\;The wind blows my head around.  \\;\\\\\\;I get claustrophobic with a full face. I can't see anything around me. I would agree they could save your life but I think they could also cost you your life, or I could break my neck and live to eat pea soup. Just my opinion.
Interesting that most people are using a shield of some kind. \\; I guess, I kinda got hung up on seeing a Jessi James on tv \\;roaring down the freeway with only sun glasses on. \\; I do prefer the full face, \\; but again I am a new rider. \\; I had no idea there was so much wind resistance on the highway and I am not even traveling at U.S highway speeds!
I don't wear one but down here in Fla. I would never put a full face upon my head again.... Ruins the ride in my opinion(suffocating)... they make ear plugs for those long excursions at highway speeds and panoptix keeps the wind off the eyes.
If I need to get a helmet in the future it will be a 1/2 helmet of some persuasion for sure.
I'm thinking love bug season might change that.
I wear a half helmet right now but have a full on order for special occasions.
I prefer a Nolan full face modular for cold weather, rain and highway riding. They are pricey but I have tried cheaper ones and found you get what you pay for. I guess you have to figure how much your noggin is worth. For local and fair weather riding any good skid lid and goggles work. For that I recommend a carbon fiber model http://www.carbonfiberhelmets.com
I had the laser surgery and it works BUT as you get older you still lose your close up vision for reading.
I don't like full face helmets because I feel claustrophobic in them, but they protect better. I wear a beanie and wear prescription glasses, but I wear goggles that go over my glasses. Kind of goofy, but I could really care less what people think - like Scott said, you are riding a Harley, nothing else is important. I would love to have normal eyes and wear a pair of sunglasses, but that isn't happening without many thousands of dollars for lasik, which I don't have...
I wear chaps when it's cold too, because I ride year round. Never wore fingerless gloves though, never saw the point.
\\;Just my 2 cents,I have just updated my full face from a Bell Sprint to a Arai RX-7 Corsair.I couldn't believe the difference a couple hundred bucks could make. Now I can look sideways into the other lane without my head feeling like the wind was trying to rip it off.Plus on real windy days(which we seem to have more often than not)The new helmet doesn't beat the crap out of my head like my old one did(1 yr old Bell Sprint). So I can ride further and am \\;more comfortable + I also wear glasses so I like the full face for keeping the wind out from behind my lenses.
\\;So wear what you like but Ride the Hog man
