Default VALVE NOISE

I've just under 1k on my 08 FXDC and have an engine noise( sounds like valve train Ft. cylinder) after the engine is warmed up and running around 40 mph and at "neutral throttle".
Dealer looked at it and said it was the kickstand rubber! NOPE! They let the bike sit overnite as they didn't have time to ride it when it was warmed up. Anyone having&nbsp\\;the same problem? I'm due for the 1k service and will go to a different dealer after that I'll perform my own service. Thanks&nbsp\\; ~ Nels

There are a lot of threads on the forum about this.&nbsp\\; It seems to be the MoCo's/dealers stance that "all of 'em" make that sound and there's nothing wrong with it.&nbsp\\; My best advice is to try to nail down the exact conditions that are present when the sound is most noticable and tell the dealer what they are so that they can try to replicate them when they troubleshoot.&nbsp\\; I don't know how familiar you are with dealing with the MoCo or their dealers, but let's just say that they're not all too eager to honor their warranties nearly as much as they should be.&nbsp\\; Keep after them and hopefully they help you out if there is something wrong withthe bike.

Scram, I've had 80inch flaltheads, knuckle's and shovels but the only time I had a nooise similar to this was on a shovel with a loose valve guide. I needed off a hardtail and kicker so I bought new and thought there wouldn't be any problems. Outside of this noise I couldn't be happier. Just a few mods to accomadate my likes and I'm good to go

Put a stethoscope on it Nels.

Some noises can be hard to pinpoint,
especially at 40 mph.

eardrum extensions make a big difference.

I think this issue may be common to many of the twin cams. My '03 RK had it right up until I sold it.&nbsp\\; Never got worse or better.

I don't mean to degrade the bikes by any means.&nbsp\\; I love my FXDWG.&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;I love that it's an American product built to AMerican designs.&nbsp\\; Where I get a little miffed is with the dealers and the way that too many people are treated when it comes to sevice. With that being said, I'm sure that there are many dealers that are great about service and treat their customers very very well, just not the two near me!!&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\;The dealership that I bought the bike from was awesome to deal with, but their down in Orlando FL and I'm in NY, so going there for service isn't a viable option!!!&nbsp\\;

NELS - check out the valvetrain section of the forum below the models section on the main page) and you'll see some threads about the valve noise.&nbsp\\; Some people have had some really good&nbsp\\;info on where to look and how to fix various issues.&nbsp\\; Hope this helps and that I didn't offend anyone with my first post.&nbsp\\;

agree wtih mud, or you can do a poor man version and put a screw driver to the boxes and the handle to your ear, sounds crazy but works great! granted you have to be parked and idoling, unless your old lady is a risk taker, ha ha ha
