Just got back in from Daytona tonight for weekend one which was great but a tranny issue cropped up that might be recall related (you tell me). I have no idea if the tranny recall was performed but I bought the bike in January.
06 35th superglide; When I shift up from 1st to second gear or sometimes 2nd gear to 3rd, the shifter lever gets some bounce back and shifts back into into the gear I'm trying to shift from. I thought it was my boots hitting the shifter causing this but I was able to replicate it a few times earlier today so this was not the case. From what I can tell, this only happens if the bike is shifted before the vibration free sweet zone so engine vibration literally 'shakes' the shifter and catches the lower gear before I release the clutch. Annoying problem. Anybody else see this? Gonna be fun explaning this one to the dealer where any issue is 'perfectly normal'. I'd hate to have the bike on the stand and have it shift into first itself from the vibes. Milage and use has only made this issue worse. Thoughts?
The first thing I would do is call the MoCo customer service line and give them your vin number and they will tell you if your bike has bee repaired under the recall. If you bike's production date was prior to 12/05/2005 it may have not been repaired but you have to call them to find out. While you are on the phone with them explain the problem and see what they say. Second call the dealer where you bought the bike and get an appointment. Third check the oil level in the trans just to make sure its full. I would get the bike in ASAP and not ride it until it's repaired.
