Hello I have a couple of questions about helmets wondering if anyone can help me out?1. What is the difference between Arai ($500) and HJC($150) and HD($200) full face helmets?2. Which one allows the most venthilation?I think I am going with a full face for my ears, eyes, &\\; face....but want as much air as possible. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Man, that question is going to open up a can of worms. \\; The best thing to do is make a list of different helmets in different price ranges and try each of them on. \\;The helmet that is most comfortable, well made and in your price range is the helmet for you. \\; I believe the HD helmets are made by \\;HCI now, \\; I know Bieffe used to manufacture HD helmets, at least their half helmets because I used to own one. \\; In my humble opinion, \\;and up to a point, the mid priced helmets are decent quality and value, however, I have always worn ARAI and \\;SHOEI, simply because their fit is consistant and quality second to none, plus, you never have to worry about finding a shield. \\; Just my opinion fella's. \\; \\; \\; \\;
I have a KBC modular that has a vent in the face and another on top that you can open/close easily. It's always hot here so I flip the face part up when I am around 40mph. Lot's of flow then. Cost me $200. \\;
I have limited knowledge on that one due to wearing the arai but I do know it breaths very well, not shur of the others. \\; I have a SIMPSON "BANDIT" drag helmet that is very good in the air department but has limited view. \\; \\;Good Luck.
I have several full face helmets including an arai Chaser. It ventilates superbly and I particularly like the vents on the visor which are ducted to vent the brow which is an area that gets pretty warm. No other helmet that I know of has that feature. \\; I also like the catch on the visor that allows it to vent at the bottom very slightly without giving any wind noise.
Arai helmets cost $500 for good reason and in my opinion, are worth the cost. \\; Unfortunately they are so comfortable that once you wear one everything else feels poor. \\;  \\;
I have a Shoei RF1000 ($350) and like it a lot. It has good air flow but I'm not sure how it compares to a Arai. They are both very well made helmets, the Shoei just seemed to fit me better.
The big difference I've noticed with helmets, is the higher end helmets weigh less. They are also more comfortable, IMO.
That said, I wear a Vega half helmet most of the year. I switch to the Shoei in bad/cold weather.
one bit of advice if you're considering buying an HD helmet.... go to the dealer, find one you like, try it on, then look inside at the tag and it will tell you who makes it. usually it's HJC or KBC. Then go online and get the HJC or KBC version. It's the same helmet except it doesn't have the HD logo on it and it's also probablyy $50-100 cheaper than the HD version.... just some advice. happy hunting on the helmets. I can't tell you how many i've bought, tried, didn't like, etc. I keep coming back to my NeXL DOT beanie which is 5 yrs old.
