I recently had all of my wrinkle black parts painted vivid black to match the rest of the paint on my bike. I love the look of this compared to before and so does my father. He and i both bought the exact same bikes and he wants to add alittle more chrome where as im doing more black. Anyway my question is can the chrome console from say a 06 wideglide or 35th superglide bolt up to the stock street bob tank? I know the ignition is on the tank and i'd have to relocate that or cover the opening but are the profiles the same so that the console would sit right on the tank's surface? If i cant figure this out we've decided we will just send the stock console out for chrome.
Did you paint your console vivid black? What other parts did you paint black? I powdercoated my battery cover, electrical box cover, fender struts, tiny bullet blinkers, lowers, trees, and bars gloss black and I wanted to paint the console but it has that rough finish so I'm not sure how it would look. I still need to pull off my rocker boxes and powdercoat those gloss black as well. The chrome console would look good with more chrome too I think. I'm not sure about fitment though. If it won't work I would guess that HD will be coming out with a chrome one to fit.
I sent the console, battery box, and battery cover out and they were sanded smooth and then sprayed Vivid, then cleared. The paint quality looks almost better than factory. It makes the bike look much better imo, as i love the black engine but wrinkle black didnt blend well with the glossy vivid black. I havent done a whole lot more in black, although i have added a Nightrain wrinkle black derby cover, a wrinkle black horn cover, and will be doing the upper and lower rocker covers off a Nightrain as soon as the 1K service rolls around this Spring. Im adding chrome and black however, not just black. I really like the bikes looks now and my favorite aspect is the drag bars w/ 6" billet risers. It gave the bike a whole different look. My next task is the puny headlight, I am going to order the HD billet one offered to make the bike look a bit less stubby....I think ill have a hybrid bike when im thru, its going to be my Streetrain.
I was going to paint the battery and electrical cover but I figured I'd just send them to powder while everything else was going. They are pretty much the exact color/gloss as the frame so it looks good. I agree that with the Vivid Black the wrinkle looks better just on the motor and drivetrain area. I'm doing some limited chrome too for accent, like full billet chrome hand and forward controls. I haven't taken a close look at the console...is it plastic? If it's plastic is it painted or molded? Just wondering if it can be stripped or has to be sanded. I will definately be painting it Vivid. Oh, and post some pics, especially of that console!! Sounds like a good looking bike for sure.
its stamped steel. Ill be posting pics as soon as the weather removes itself from my a$$ up here, so i can get the bike outside. Your bike sounds like its gonna be quite the piece. Im always looking forward to seeing badass bobs here
Sweet, if it's steel I'll just strip the paint and start over. Yea, it will definately not look like any other Bob I've seen. Besides the wheel problem it's coming together good now. I think I'll try to get that console painted up this weekend since it's supposed to snow and below freezing so I won't be riding even if we finish it up. It'll be cool to see those pics.
Yea, I know the consoles are different styles. The Lowrider should bolt right on, but that involves a tach that i really dont like the looks of, plus the relocation of the turn signals. Proably the easiest and most custom route would be to order up a new console and gasket and simply send it out to a chromer. I guess i better get moving so its done and looking good in time to ride this spring.
