So I'm looking at putting the new V&\\;H Big Radius in black on my 08 Street Bob, but I've been told any number of things regarding what's required to do so. \\; Some dealers and shops have said I need to also do an upgraded air cleaner such as the Big Sucker or the Screamin' Eagle Stage 1 along with either the PCIII or SERT dyno-tune.
Other shops said I don't even need to go with an upgraded air cleaner but it would just help increase the flow through the pipes. \\; I've even had a couple places say I could still just get the cleaner, but I don't need a dyno tune with the PCIII or the SERT as long as I just do a software download.
So what's the deal? \\; I've been quoted everything from $1200 to $2000 to have this done and I'm really confused.
I've been able to find the pipes for $597 online and the Big Sucker is around $200, or $150 for the Screamin' Eagle Stage 1. \\; So that would be around $800 for the parts.
One shop said the software download/update would be $130 and labor to install everything would be 3.5 hours at $75 an hour plus $25 for "shop parts". \\; So looking at $1200 to have it all done w/o a dyno tune. \\; with the dyno tune, the other shops are looking at around $500 more.
So what do I really need? \\; I know I could probably install the pipes/cleaner myself...but what about the dyno-tune? \\; Do I need to get either the PCIII or the SERT, or can I just go with the software download/remap? \\; And what about a FuelPak?
Clearly I'm confused as to what all I really need to put into this...all I want is to upgrade the pipes in order to have a better sound and improved looks...
When you say remap...did that simply involve a software download or did you have to go with the dyno-tune using a PCIII or SERT? \\;\\\\\\; That's my main question here...

I just called Vance &\\; Hines and they basically said all I need is their pipes, a higher flow air cleaner and their FuelPak...
They said I don't need to bother with having to purchase a PCIII or a SERT, and that the software download is a "band aid" but won't take full advantage of the ugrade. \\; So according to V&\\;H, the FuelPak comes ready to go without having to go through the trouble of a custom dyno-tune.
So I might just do that, and try to install myself, or tell the dealer to do it and ignore them when they try to tell me I need the other stuff...
It will cost you from $1200 to $2000 to have the proper stage 1 completed by dealer or other bike shop.
You will experience a better sound and performance with the stage 1. Some of the guys on this forum
have done their own work and you will get a lot of help here also. Good luck and good riding.
i have short shots on my 08 bob and i used a big sucker and fuel pak \\; \\; \\; and i dont know **** about a wrench but its a good sound and looks just a lil bit of a pop on decel thats all \\; cost me total of $750

Thanks Badmonkey...that sounds about right. \\; V&\\;H said all I'd need in addition to the pipes and air kit was the Fuel Pak. \\; That would save the need to get a tuner and pay for dyno time.
You can do the exhaust without any changes at all and you'll be fine. Usually people increase air flow by adding a stage 1 or similar air filter system since they are allowing exhaust gasses to flow easier with an upgraded exhaust. You don't have to do any computer changes unless you are adding a stage 1 air filter or similar and a stage 1 download will be fine. All that download will do though is maintain the stock air/fuel ratio, make minor adjustments to timing, and raise your rpm rev limiter to 6200. If you decide that you want to spend money on a fuel management programmer, you don't need the download.
All in all, you don't need to do anything else to your bike if you just want to stick with the exhaust upgrade. I do recommend though at some point, add a stage 1 air filter and along with the download (cheaper and what I would recommend unless you move up to stage II status) because you will enjoy the results, or go for a fuel management programmer of your choice (more expensive but better in the long run for increased build changes and more accurate/better for your bike in regards to fuel delivery).

You may or may not get away without needing anything else. \\; I started getting popping (lean condition) by just adding slipons to my bike. \\; I upgraded to stage 1 (a/c and fuelpak) and it ran much better. \\; When I went in to buy my BR pipes, the first thing they asked me was if I already had a stage 1 a/c and fuelpak. \\; In other words, they would have recommended them if I had said no. \\; You can do all of it for much less than 2 grand. \\; I have 530 bucks in my pipes (slipons were only 200). \\; I bought my big sucker online for 120 and my fuelpak for 200. \\; The air cleaner and fuelpak installs are very simple to install and program yourself as is a preprogrammed PCIII if you choose to go that route instead of the fuelpak. \\; If you go full stage 1 your bike will run better, breathe easier, and run cooler. \\; And you will probably get a little more growl out of those pipes as well.
i think V&\\;H would recommend their product,, bottom line is the SERT or PCIII is the way to go IMO. PCIII is cheaper and a whole lot of fun and gives you great control over the setup. Do the whole thing yourself and save a load of cash
