I went with a Harley oil cooler and installed it myself. It isn't difficult but there are some catches. You have to have a 7/16" allen wrench or allen socket to remove the old adapter. You also have to move the voltage regulator up and take the front motormount loose to mount the cooler. None of this is hard in itself but all together it is a bit of a pain. I could immediately feel the motor run cooler in traffic. If you are going to do a lot of performance mods, I think it is a good idea.

He could also use one of the long slender frame mount type coolers.

FYI- it lowers the temp about 20 degrees. I haven't had my bike go into the one cylinder shut down since I installed it. It only happens when I am stuck going nowhere in traffic.

As long as you remember that an oil cooler doesn't do anything unless you're moving. Also, the warm air coming out of the oil cooler hits the engine.
