As a born again cheapskate, I want a set of detachable bags, my idea is to mount a pair of stand offs on the bike, moving tailights, get bags drill holes that line up to the stand offs, put some kind of plate in the bag for support and bolt through the bag from the inside into the open end of the stand off. \\; As I carry a tool kit taking the bags and stand offs \\; off, covering the exposed bolt with a thread on cap is no problem. \\; the weight of loaded bags can be adjusted for by using \\;Hastaloy  \\;bolts and forged stand offs

Is there anyone on the Forum that has attempted to do anything similar? \\; successful? or a failure?

A guy I spent the week with at MB bike week did that. He used 1.5 or 2" threaded rod adjusters as the stand-offs. He was able to "unbolt" his bags within 2 min. Worked out well.
