This is what I'm trying to do with my rear StreetBb fender, any ideas how? Mount the fender to the swingarm? Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know if I'd recommend it on a Street Bob. It would move a lot with the up and down of the swingarm and may cause clearance problems with the tire. the bike in the photo still has fender struts so it might be a better idea to go with a custom or customized fender and use the struts to mount it to the frame. Otherwise, you may have to cut off the struts so the install looks right.

Just a couple of things to kick around.

It's alot of work and some strut cutting to really get a bobbed fender to ride right on the tire on a Dyna frame. I am replacing my rear fender with a Jesse James Tombstone which will should be a few inches shorter than stock. We did some measuring and it looks like I will be able to drop the fender fairly close to the tire (for a Dyna anyway). It will look alot closer to the tire than the stock setup. We just have to figure out how much shock travel I will have and mount it just high enough to stop it from bottoming out. I'm only 165 lbs so I won't be moving the shocks a whole lot. Since I'm doing a sidemout tail I won't have any wiring harness inside the fender to worry about. When I ride two-up (another 105 lbs) I will adjust the rebound on my shocks to help avoid bottoming out. Hopefully I should have some pics of the new fender, side mount tail, hand tooled sprung leather seat, and old school pinstriping in two or three weeks.

Basic - man you have been busy with the mods lately. Can't wait to see the finished product. I was thinking if you mounted the rear fender directly to the swingarm, say a straight bar from rear of fender down to rear of swingarm then you could have it as low as possible and the fender would move with the rear wheel.

Ha, ha...yea, I have this problem of patience. They weather has been horrible here so I figure might as well get as much done as I can. You're right, you could have some fender braces that go down to the swingarm. You would also have to either make some other braces on the back/bottom part of the fender or either run the fender down to the swingarm and mount to it there so it is braced. You would also have to cut off the fender struts and do some grinding/smoothing to clean up that area since it won't be covered by the strut covers. So yes, it is doable. You just have to decide if you want to cut the frame on your new bike. I also think that you would have to find/fab up the right looking brace going from the fender to the swingarm in order to make it look clean and not too cluttered since you already have a big shock there. Let us know what you decide to do.

Not sure if you have seen this or not but this company here www.dmcustoms.net has a good looking wide tire/fender kit for the Dynas.

Rick,

Who ever said we were not happy?? God forbid we make our Bobs our own. I could have built the exact bike I want and then had to deal with all the issues surrounding a custom. Instead I decided to buy a factory bike with warranty and EFI and change things to get it how I want it. The "bobber" style bike can have many different looks and it doesn't have to be exactly what HD (or you) say it is...just pick up an issue of Street Chopper and The Horse and you'll see that.

Also, easy on the caps...we can read just fine without them.
