On 06 Dyna FXD35 - does anyone have any recommendations for the adjusting the rear shocks. It left the dealer on setting 3. Nothing in the manual. Just wondering if anyone else has played with the settings. Setting 3 with a rider weight of 200lbs works well for me.
I've moved mine around to test the ride. I personally like setting 1 which is the softest primarily because it is a much easier ride on my bad back. 2 and 3 were ok too but the bumps were a little harder. 4 and 5 are pretty much if you're carrying a passenger or unless you want to feel like your riding on bricks solo.
It's all a personal preference though so just move them around and find your own sweet spot.
I went and bought a spanner today and found out that mine have been on 5 this whole time! No wonder I thought the ride was a bit rough. I cranked them down to 1. At least, I think it's down to 1. I cranked it all the way to the left. I need a test ride but gotta watch the kids today. :-(

You can also use a strap wrench to change the settings. That's what I use so it doesn't scratch the shock bodies.
You will notice a HUGE difference in comfort if yours were on 5. Like I said above, I like 1 or even 2 just for the comfort factor. You'll notice a big difference when you go over bumps from now on.
Don't you have a sticker on yours with 12345 on it? The number facing directly backwards towards the rear of the bike is what number you have selected.
If you're behind the bike and rotate both shocks counter clockwise all the way then you will be on 1.
Plus you can tell a big difference from 1 to 5 if you just sit on the bike and bounce up and down. If you're on 1 it will be more "springy" and if you're on 5 it will be pretty stiff and not bounce much at all.
My wife and I ride on our bike and it is set at 2 and total weight would be about 300 to 305 LBS. When I first got my FXD it was set at 1 and I set it at 2 and we don't bottom-out.
