Also, now that you mentioned it, one of the other things I picked up from the MSF course that I keep in my head almost everytime I'm riding and slowing down is not to give the front brake too much during a turn because it locks everything up and you'll fall.
That's probably helped me out a few times while learning. I always remember to use more of the rear and just feather the front brake without overdoing it.
Little things like that stick with you while riding that can really help.
Glad to hear you are up and trying it out...I am glad to say I have been very lucky with the help of my spirits keeping me off the ground and on two wheels...I too use things from the MSF course..Don't push yourself too hard.....Take care...

Gooder'n heck. I KNEW that double-shot of microbrew and a few tracks of Skynyrd's Street Survivors would do the trick. I'm sure your experience has got a lot of us knocking wood out here. "There, but for the grace ...."
I believe the biggest problem was glancing down at your speedo while driving in traffic. You're reaction time was all but eliminated in that moment. The speedo (for me anyway) in most cases, is of no consequence when moving with the traffic.
Great point - I'm guilty of looking down at the speedo at random times too - just **** about knowing my speed. Gonna work on breaking that habit!
