Seems now that the weather is warm I am getting some pinging everytime I get on it hard? I originally had the stage 1 dealer download and have now been running the PCIII for a few months?
My question is, does the stage 1 downlaod change the timing from factory specs? Bike runs great with the PC if I could just get rid of the pinging. I have tried adding some 100 octane it it helps a little. It runs flawless at night when the outside temp is down.
Anyone one else have this issue? Do I need to have the dealer pull out the stage 1 download?
I haven't logged since installing the high flow ac, but I would expect the spark to be retarded a bit. Personally I have to question whether advance is the way to address pinging under heavy acceleration. Certainly it would be the way to address pinging under steady state conditions with reasonable afrs. Under heavy acceleration you're going to get temporary lean conditions and as near as I can tell that is what causes the pinging I get. I'm reluctant to retard the spark without being able to produce the pinging in a steady state. The challenge of course is creating steady state conditions without a dyno.
I got a little pinging under hard acceleration this weekend but I had been sitting in heavy traffic for a while. We waited in the traffic for about 45 minutes then we pulled off on an exit then had to cross a lot of traffic coming at us to get on the other side of the road. I hauled *** and heard some pinging.
After we got on a highway with normal traffic it cooled down and I didn't hear anymore pinging the rest of the day.
Well, I finally got around to logging with the high flow ac. I was a bit quicker on the throttle this time so looks like I can rule out that theory on temporary lean. I was getting knock retard after 2-3 seconds of holding wot. I'm still learning so I'm not sure how to interpret the log. To many variables make my head hurt
Overall the knock retard is starting about 3k-3.5k rpms at wot and continuing to 5k where I let off. It's varying in how much I'm getting and exactly where it starts. Temperature seems to matter. Above 260 I'm getting it on both cylinders, but below just the rear one. It isn't clear what is determining where it starts or how much knock retard I'm getting from the ecm. I get 2 degrees and 6 degrees at the same temperature and map pressure.
