hey, just wondering if the big sucker a/c needs to be cleaned and oiled like a k&n filter. also i was thinking of upgrading to the k&n filter part #hd-0800, just wondering if these fit the arlen ness big sucker stage 1 kits.
thanks
I was under the impression that Arlenn Ness used K&N fillters in both their BS and BSII. I clean my with a K&N air fillter recharger kit that I got at a auto parts store by the house. It comes with a spray clearner and oil. Pretty easy, waiting for the fillter to dry so you can go ride is the hard part.
The Big Sucker filter is a copy, but I wouldn't call it cheap. I've had mine for 10k miles and a handfull of washes (w/ the K&N recharge kit) and it has held up great.

+1!
I bought the same K&N recharge kit you'd use on a real K&N filter and it works just fine using the same method and instructions. You'll get several cleanings and oilings out of the approx. $14 kit. As with any of the filters, it's easy to overoil them - be careful.

Im just going by my experience with it, mine folded back from going over 100 from the wind, and completely fell apart (metal front pealed back where you mount your cover) at about 16 thousand miles, I replaced it with a K & N and it is holding up fine. I suppose with more reasonable use they might last much longer but I put heavy milage and ride fast it didnt hold up for me.

Wow, it messed up from normal, average, everyday riding like that? If that's the breaking point of the filter, I don't think I'll have to worry about mine.
