How does it sound without the baffles, I want to take mine out but I think they might wake the wife

got 'em, love 'em. installed quiet baffles (not really that quiet) and they sound great without being obnoxious. i also feel like i got some low end torque out of the deal.

without the baffles they're loud as a mother f#$%er!

The standard baffles that come with them are almost like not having any in there.

I was runnin the VandH SSSs a couple years ago on my 06 FXDI.

First night I installed them, went for a test ride,

I was setting off car alarms half a block before I got there.

Without reading anybody else's answers I'll tell you I bought a used '01 FXD with a 103" in it & a cam etc. It had Short Shots at the time (see where this is going?) and a SE Pro 2 (2into1) as a spare system. The guy told me that if I really wanted it to GO then to swap out the Short Shots for the 2into1 (he was right).

The Short Shots had only one thing going for them, they looked cool.

Otherwise, they suck. Raspy sound & NO power above 3K. End of story.
