'04 Low Rider with 20k
I'm looking at an '04 low rider with fuel injection with just under 20,000 miles on it. There's a lot of cosmetic extras included. Dealer's asking price is very high, but i haven't attempted to talk price yet. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are with the mileage on the bike. 20k seems like a fairly decent amount of miles. I'd hate to get the bike and within the first few years start having a ton of problems.

I've got 38K+ on my '00 Low Rider without any major issues, just routine maintenance. Bought it used through one o' the local dealers used bike shop. I'm not impressed with the previous owner considering none of the usual (5k, 10k, 20k, etc) services were done on it, but I'm gettin' that back in line with what HD recommends for their bikes.
Check that Low Rider's service history if you can to make sure those were done in a timely manner. Check the oil yourself for clarity, grit, etc. Listen for any "slap" in the primary case while the bike is idling to make sure the primary chain's been adjusted as it should be. Check the air filter!! LOL When I did a routine check if the air filter, I found the filter that came with the bike outa the crate! 36K + miles on one air filter! Thankfully the dealership owner re-reimbursed me for the air filter I bought as that should have been found by his shop during their "once-over", not by the customer after buyin' the bike.

I wouldn't pay a high price for it. The '04 is the old frame and the new one is much better looking and probably a stronger frame as well. At least I haven't heard of any big weaknesses to the new frame (since '06) other than the rubber mounts. Cosmetic extras really don't add much, if any value to the bike.

Dealers want way too much for used bikes! There are alot of people out there that bought bikes in the last 2-3 years that have hardly any miles on them cause they don't ride em & and realize they bought something they're not really into, so they end up selling them. Like stated above, you can't get much for cosmetic extras. You should take your time and keep your eye on the private sellers! Alot of people are hurting for money these days, and just want to get rid of payments.

I agree with Chad, look at the private sellers. There are some great deals out there. I bought an 05 FXDLI early last year with 2800 miles and tons of accessories for $11500. I wouldn't worry too much about mileage if you can see proof of the maintenance. The original owners bought an extended warranty with it that was transferable to me and I sure did like having the extra piece of mind. I have 13000 miles on mine now and haven't had a single problem, although it desperately needs a new back tire. Good Luck.

I bought an 03 FXD with 19,000 on it for $8700. It had a stage 1 and windshield, a little extra chrome. The mileage shouldnt bother you if like the previous posters stated you can verify the service history and the shape the bike is in (how well it has been taken care of). Seems to me there are much better deals to be found than at the stealer (craigs list, ebay, etc.)
