Default An exhaust thread help!!

Recently bought an 01 Wide Glide

Need some advice on making it a bit QUIETER

A little about the bike

103 big bore

head work

SE258 cams

10.0-1 compression

unbaffled Hooker Staggered rebels

I love the sound of a Harley
But
this thing shakes buildings and I would love to take it down a few dbs WITHOUT hurting the performance. This bike runs strongand I would really hate to change its characteristics very much.

Anyone with any big bore/ higher comression engines have experience at making a bike sound good without getting death threats from your neighbors

ps
if it means giving up very much...............I would rather off my neighbors

put in baffels... you should not have to rejet but you may (i doubt it)... my neighbors love me.. i am the guy that fixes anything and has all the tools... so i am blessed on that one i guess... other than that they only tell me how much they like the bikes i have in front of the house all the time... lucky i guess

Check with hooker and see if baffles are available. If not go with V&H big shots.

put baffles in it.....not only will it be quieter but it'll run better too. I used to run straight pipes...sounds cool but gets old real fast. when I put the baffles in it quietened down - especially at cruising speeds and the backfiring etc disappeared on decel.

You shouldn't need to replace the pipes even if hooker doesn't make em for yours. All sorts of baffles available that should fit...you might have to drill a hole iln the back to mount them but its easy to do.

First thought: Why?
Second thought: You wanna make your harley quieter? Could buy a honda. LMAO.

That may come off as sounding like an *** and I can't help that but I just laugh my *** off any time I read a thread about quieting harley's down. I guess "f it's too loud, you're too old" still holds true.

I'm not trying to sound like a d*ck and mean no offense....

Does anyone else see the humor?

Some may call me old (Im 50) but been racing dirtbikes for 40 years. I have extras if you ever come to Indiana and want to show me how fast you are. Just lookin to get along with my neighbors. This thing shakes the ground .

Do you have neighbors??

Not trying to sound like a dick or anything

No offense taken.

I ride with a half dozen guys on a regular basis and they run open pipes and complain that they cant here their bikes when I am alongside.

I think open pipes are a bit too loud myself.
