At 5000 I changed primary, tran and motor fluids. Very happy, saved bucks on labor and it was simple and satisfying for this newbie. However, someone told me since I didnt have the dealer do the service I should have my clutch adjusted.....He said if not you could fry your clutch? Huh? How do I know if I need to adjust it and if so how do i go about that? The lever is probably not as tight as when it was new, but..... Thanks
bull ****.. easy... just loosen it all the way you can on the adj on the down tube off the cable, now break the nut loose in the middle of your clutch basket... back the set screw out a bit then screw it back in till it seats, after it does, back it out a 1/2 turn, and tighten it with the set bolt again... then just take the play out of the cable with the adj on the down tube again by tighening it... there is a real good how to below... it is easy!

Regarding living far from a dealer, all parts can be ordered by mail and received in a timely way via UPS or Fedex from just about any Harley dealer. Just call their parts department.
If you do not adjust your clutch over many many miles I could see how the normal wear of the clutch plates could make it so the cable is so loose that your clutch wont engage. But I am not sure how you would "fry" your clutch unless is was maladjusted to the point where it was slipping when you were trying to ride.
