i ride an 87 fxrc (basically the same). best riding and handling bike i've ever owned. got it 3.5 years ago for $6500 w/ 16k. there out there. go get one.
Still have the one I bought in '92, the last FXRS Low Rider. It has 137K on it with slip-ons, SE air cleaner, Progressive suspension and an EV13 cam. I've blacked out a few parts over the years (I was way ahead of the Dark Custom thing). Otherwise, mostly stock. It's been such a good bike I've never thought seriously of getting rid of it. The Evo engine is the best and it runs cool unlike the TC. I haven't ridden a 96 yet, but the magazines that publish 1/4 mile times have it running 13.9 in stock form, the same time as a '93 FXLR tested by Cycle World in '93. It sure clobbers all the softails when I'm in the switchbacks in the Black Hills.
They're such great bikes! Here are a couple pics of my '88 and one of mine and a buddies together... I bought mine after taking his on a trip --- it's such an awesome ride!
The FXR is a great harley and it's a shame the MoCo moved away from the platform. One route to take: I put dual front Brembo brakes on my '06 StreetBob and have been very happy with the bike. Also RaceTech cartridge emulators, progressive springs up front and Progressive 440 shocks for much better handling. With a Stage 1 2into1 Fatcat and A/C the 88" motor delivers enough torque to make it a fun machine. jay Risk
Thx . Must say your bike looks better than my FXR.
I started with this:
Now it looks:
Rear shock was replaced with Street Bob shocks (cornering is amazing), next mods will be fairing (founded a little damaged H-D 1/4 fairing hope guy will sell it ), stock FXd handlebar (now it is too wide), mid controls, and finaly new engine S&S 96 or 107".
