Default Fixing to leave the fold

The dyna fold that is.

I know I haven't posted much this summer, and there is a reason. I haven't been able to ride much. As some of the older members here are aware, I was involved in a serious accident with a drunk driver in april of 07'. The physical effects of that accident have been more severe than I would have liked to have admitted initially, and as he had no insurance and nothing to sue for I have been under severe, and I do mean severe, strain, both physically and mentally, trying to hold together my business, and keep everything the wife and I have worked so hard for over the years.

The results of the physical and mental stress, were that I was almost completely unable to ride my wide glide. Even short rides turned into a nightmare. The last time I was on it was about a month and a half ago, and it took about four miles for my right leg to go completely dead due to the pressure on the bottom of my spine, and and the resulting misalignment of L3 and L4. I turned around and headed back, and partway my right arm went dead and started severe muscle spasms as a result of pressure on a nerve in my neck, caused by misalignment of C3and C4, from trying to hold my head up in the wind. Add this to having two blown shoulders, and riding has been pure agony for me. I barely got the bike back in the shop without dumping it, and missed two days of work over a 20 minute ride. I have, over the past year, tried virtually everything to make that bike something I could ride. I have spent thousands on different seats, windshields, backrests, lowers, ect ect, trying to make it work, to no avail.

As riding has been such a huge part of my life for so many years, dating back into my teenage years, the whole affair has been pretty depressing, and I failed to find another hobby that offered me the same stress relief. As such, I didn't even want to see the bike, or this site, or anything else that resembled anything even related to riding motorcycles.

Then I got down and dirty with the chiropractor about it. He took the time to examine and break down my riding posture on that bike, and the effects of everything from control position, to wind pressure, to backrest pressure, to handlebar height and position, and proceeded, with pen and paper to show me exactly what was going wrong.

Well, he did the same thing with my old backhoe last year, and I ended up demoing, and buying, a new 130,000 dollar trackhoe, which has made my days and life better beyond words, because it fits me. Well, I'm sure by now, ya'll are guessing the results of my last heart to heart with the chiropractor, and you're probably guessing right.

The Road King, which was my first choice in the touring line up, had the right posture, but I was still getting too much wind beating me up, and my neck and shoulders went to crap early in the ride as a result. I hate windshields anyway, they never seem to work quite right.

The Ultra Classic, however, was perfect. With the fairing and adjustable deflectors, I was able to get the wind exactly right, and I put about 260 miles on an 08' today in about six hours, in very windy conditions, in everything from interstate to stop and go traffic, and was able to get off the bike with no more pain that what I generally endure day to day, bike or no bike. While I am not necessarily elated with the prospect of riding a bagger, I am truly elated with the prospect of being able to head out of here on one or two week motorcycle adventures again, in comfort, without having to take a bottle of 120 hydros with me to insure that I can get the damn thing back to the house. So elated I can't communicate it with the written word.

As far as having to ride a bagger, I figure the cruise, comfort, radio, and dry storage space will be a sort of consolation prize for having to not only be seen riding a bagger, but also kind of make up for having to have all that crap out in front of me in the way of my open view of the road. Truly though, I am elated at the prospect of being able to take trips again.

So, long story short, the dealer will have an 09' ultra in dark blue pearl at the end of the month, and my name is already on it.

The rest of the story is, I had completely outfitted that dyna with quick detach touring gear, which I am currently in the process of removing. I'm fixing to have a crapload of dyna accessories for sale, so stay tuned............

Hell, I'm glad you're still able to ride a bike at all...that's awesome. In your position, I wouldn't care if I had to even switch to a Gold Wing, getting back on a bike and being comfortable and able to enjoy it is what's most important.

psych, good to hear ya got that settled.

I'm surprised you can even walk after that incident.
Lucky, I guess, you're not not staring up at the dirt
with your wife leaving flowers every Sunday.

Get a stroker in that Ultra and we'll let ya come visit now and then.
