Default Ignition Relocation FXD

Going to relocate my ignition from the neck to the horn mount on the left side. I know a couple guys have done this so I have a couple q's

Did you disconect the wires from the ingnition or did you diconect it from the harnes then run to the side?

How many pins on the ignition?

Thanks

I plan on doing the same thing this winter. If you come up with an efficient way to do it please do a how-to post, although I don't see how it could be to complicated. Good luck with it. Oh yeah, nice bike !

Well....I just went out into my garage and found an old ingnition and mount from my old shovelhead.....I'm going to start ripping into it. The stock ignition is pissing me of. I'll let you know how it goes.

Three terminals on the stock ignition. The newer style flip top fl/fx switch also has three terminals.

Cool, thanks...that will help with wiring. I found an old ignition from my shovelhead and think I have it going. I used the bracket from the back of my horn and inserted the ignition.

Anyone have a way of removing the ignition on a FXD without the dealers tool? Tried tapping it to turn it but got it to move just a little.

I used a pair of bent tip needle nose pliers. Inserted the tips in the opposing dimples and the locking ring screwed off. Kind of tight in the neck and a bitch to get out after that.

The pair I used had 90 degree tips which gave me a little extra leverage.

Thumbs up Ignition Relocation

Just remember you have to turn the dimpled ring clockwise to remove it. It's what I call an interference fit.
