I picked up another chrome battery side cover and top for my 05 FXDI last weekend and put it on yesterday. That is one ill fitting piece. Had one on it before with the same results. Mis-placed that one and never found it again. Anyway, after fighting it for an hour I improvised. I think I am going to try something different.
Did the cover sit on really loose? You just no it's gonna rattle when running down the road?
I had the same problem, temp. fix I put some electrical tape on the inside corners to keep it tight.
I will pick up a thin piece of rubber to put between the battery and the cover like the original black cover had on it only it was plastic.

No, hard to explain, but I could never get the top cover to fit properly when I tightened the battery bolts. You had to get within 5 feet to notice, but you know hoe it is, when its your bike you notice everything that doesn't look right.
Thank you. They are Screaming Eagle (off road useage only) pipes that were on the bike when I bought it new. Also had the Program Commander installed. Thats what sold me on the bike.
What year is your bike? What do they call the color? What brand are your saddlebags and how do you like them?
