Default Rocker Box Exchange - What Tools?

Got chrome rocker boxes and lifter block covers to install on my 06 FXDI. Hoping to do the work this weekend.

Any specialty tools REQUIRED? If not, any specialty tools suggested? I have torque wrenches, allen sockets, standard allens, and standard mechanics tools on hand.

I have seeen recommendations for a dogbone adapter, but I don't own one and can't really think of a local source to get one.

Any tips other than following the manual?

Thanks,

John

You can get the dogbone adapters at any good auto parts store. You will need them because there isn't enough room between the framd and top of engine to get the torque wrence in there. You will also need some short allen bits with hex tops to put the dogbone adapters on. (J&P sells a set of them, but I made my own by cutting an allen wrench off with a dremmel tool.) WHEN YOU USE THE DOGBONE ADDAPTERS MAKE SURE YOU DO THE MATH TO ADJUST THE TORQUE SPECS DUE TO THE INCREASED LENGTH OF THE WRINCH!!!! The formula for making the adjustment should be in the package with your torque wrench. If not, it is available on the net.

you will need stubby allen wrenches, there are two bolts that are in a tight spot. the rear left bolt on rear rocker and i think it was the rear right bolt on the front rocker. besides stubby allen wrenches and the dog bone, its all common tools. its not that bad of a job to do, about 4-5 hrs if your be careful. if you have a digital camera take a pic of every step, then i play them in reverse on my laptop in the garage. works perfect for those questions, we all have on reinstall. yu going chome or black rockers? i installed chrome ones and they are awesome compared to my old beat up polished alumium, much easier to clean. if you run into any questions and iam on buzz me a p.m. and i will help out with any question you need, since we have the same bike. please post pics of finished job. jackyl

Please forgive me here, but what is a "dogbone"? Maybe I know it as something else or something, but I really do not know. Sorry about the somewhat dumb question on something I should know.

I believe its an adapter that moves your socket away from your ratchet. Not out like an extension but away from the ratchet mechanism. I have been searching for them myself after reading this as i plan to have my cover p-coted this winter. Sears doesnt sell them under "dogbone"

if i do find them i will post a link or somethng here

there is a picture of one that came with my torque wrench directions, but it is at home so i can see if they put another name to the adapter.
