Put some blinker relocate clamps on my 05 FXDWG and wanted to redo my wire and make it look clean(no cut and soder) .My ? is how do you get the molex plug out of the frame tube to re route wires,I can't seem to get it past the headlight plug which is down the tube about 6 inches.I had enough slack to make them work and zip tie the wire's to other things but it is not the way I was trying to accomplish, so it is bothering me every time I look at it.Any insight to this r they cliped to the tube some how?
pull the whole harness out throught the frame(not just the blinker wires). Make sure the other end of the wire harness under the seat is not zip tied to the frame...
this is the other end under the seat:
On a Wide Glide I believe the harness is in front of the back tire. Behind a black square panel. It is a pain to get to.
mine also goes in front of the tire behind a black square panel...the pix shows the slack that is up under the seat there...our frames are the same other than the rake.
section 8.33 of the service manual for my 05 Dyna explains how to pull the slack through...
the wiring that is shown is called the "service loop strap" and is basically the slack to allow one to pull the wiring through the front end of the backbone...
Hey I appreciate the how to, went out today and did just like you said and fed the slack up through the backbone and bingo there the plug was .Rerouted wire and pulled them back through done in about 30 min.Have agood one and be safe
they call that Ni**er rigging.
lol... done plenty of it in my time as well...
Not quite. Jury Rigging (the more PC, and traditional Navy term) would be more like cutting the wires, rerouting them, twisting them back together, and covering it up with electrical tape.
Getting it done correctly, one can either wage the battle to manage to pull enough of the harness out from the frame to get to the connectors, or, one can take apart the turn signals, reroute the wires, and put them back together.
