Anybody else have a set of satin fork sliders peeling/flaking real bad? Mine are peeling right at the top where the collar sits. My buddy's bike has the same condition. Both are 08 FXDs bought new in April. Is it just us or have others seen this?
The satin finished sliders are hard to maintain. Once the clearcoat is compromised, they get worse and worse. Several here have polished theirs to a chrome like finish.
take them down to bare metal and polish them...easy to maintain, do not rust like you would think... takes one day of polishing and about 30 seconds a week to keep them clean and waxed... looks great!
Read from someone on the forum, who has a the black lowers (fat bob). Dealer replaced them because they were flawed from the factory...
To be honest with you my bike was at my local HD shop in for warranty work on the fork tubes. (Fat Bob owners check your fork tubes for finish issues with the powder coat)

The polishing is real close if you do a good job on sanding smooth before polish...
all about what you want to spend $$$
I notised the Anodizing was blemished 3 weeks after I picked up my bike from the dealers, He informed me they must be faulty and offered to replace them under waranty, then he offered if I pay the difference between the Aluminum and Chrome sliders I could have Chrome, I am waiting for my chrome Sliders to arrive and they will change them out,
