I went with chrome bolts throughout the bike. When the heads show signs of rust, I try to clean them out with q-tips and Mothers, then I use chrome paint and a fine brush to touch them up.
Chrome bolts, then some clear finger nail polish inside the hex heads etc. Any place where it flakes or shows signs of rust, clean it up, then get the ol ladies clear polish.
I got hot toppers in black... love em... they stay on bud! Mike had them on his sporty too! every bolt... looked great!!!! really finishes off the motor...here are some pics of them... in back of course... I LOVE EM!!! get alot of complements on them as well... just really cleans it up
ha ha ha and an 06 with 34,000 miles (chicago riding) been rode to FL twice and missouri I can not tell you how many times... not to mention all the other trips... would not call it a trailer clean... just CLEAN
I've had them on my engine for 4 years now, never a problem. Also got them on the handle bars same thing no worries. Way less hassle than bolts, got some of them on my scooter also.
Toppers, I remove the ones I need to before I have work done to my bike. As for melting and blowing off, I use a little silicone and have no problems, I've put about 35k on bikes with toppers and haven't had one melt yet.
my chrome button heads all get rust in the heads... get the toppers...the rust looks like poo...
personally I like the stock machined look of the bolts...
my sissybar and strut bolts are chrome...
oh fender bolts too...
