Right, because if they're not assless, then they're called pants. I can't help but get so annoyed with people when they call them "assless chaps". I always respond the same way "right, they are assless becauses thats what chaps are. If they have an *** built in, then they are called pants or jeans."

You are going to get many different answers because everyone rides differently. There are so many variables such as height of rider, foward controls, mid-controls, seats, and riding position plus any combination of the variables I just mentioned. Best bet is pay attention to see if your leg, inner thighs, head, shoulders, or whatever is rubbing the tank while you are riding. Also if you have the denim paint, this will scratch much easier than a paint with a clear coat.

Regardless, wheather its your pants or chaps you will get paint wear.

I have regular paint, vivid black. But good point about paint wear regardless of chaps or not. I don't think I'd go with a tank bra because i know what they do to cars. THEY rub off the paint so once you put one on it never comes off. I'll put one on AFTER the finish is damaged.

Thanks to everyone for your input. Time to buy some chaps!

I just don't get chaps... if you're cold or want protection, why not go with full leather or nylon overpants?

Over pants would probably be better but with chaps your legs stay warmer than without and you can still function without taking them off. You know ... get in your pant pockets and take a leak without removing them.

Personally I'm not into the whole "chaps style" but I live in Hew Hampshire, the winters coming and I want to keep riding as long as i can before the snow starts.

It gets pretty cold here in WI too... that's why I wear full overpants. I function just fine... anything I need to get access too quickly goes in a jacket pocket or in a front zipper pocket on my pants. Check out the leather overpants at Fox Creek Leather.
