Default Welcome back from deployment Priest

Alright, since no one else has any way of knowing that I finally have made it back to CONUS after about 6 months deployed at sea in South East Asia, I'll start this thread off.

My sweet wife, bless her heart, bought me a set of wheels and I just had my front tire mounted this afternoon.

To get back on the road, I still need to get to a few items:

- remove a little more material from the fork stops (so I can get a decent turning radius)

- grease the bearings in the neck

- add fork oil (I was informed by some guys on the Softail forum that 11.5 oz is the quantity for re-filling the FLST forks)

- torque all of the nuts and bolts to spec

- charge the battery

This is just a phase ... I need to get a fender. I've got a list of other things on my to-do list for this bad boy; but the above is what's needed to get it back on the road for now.

Going to have to make up for some lost time this summer!

Welcome back. What year front end did you use? The one I picked up is from a 2005 Fat Boy. I just sold my project car so I got an infusion of cash to buy more parts. Are you going to run the regular Softtail tins or go with the nacelle? That's one area I'm undecided on.

Again, welcome back, thanks for all you do and get that thing on the road before the rains come!

Welcome home, and keep posting picks as you go along. I guess our bikes aren't as similar as they once were..... a Harley is never finished, right?

Thanks fellas ... it's good to be home.

That said, I'm back onboard today--I have duty as Command Duty Officer (CDO) and we're in 3-section duty. At least it's post overseas movement (POM) stand down, so should be a slow duty day.

I am still trying to decide what to do to the top half of the front end ... I'll probably do one thing and then end up changing to the other (i.e., tins/nacelle). I like the blacked out tins and sliders--Gloss Black Triple Tree Cover Kit P/N 69310-02 ($159.95 at Chicago H-D) and Gloss Black Upper Fork Slider Covers P/N 45591-02 ($46.74 at Zanotti). But I don't plan to change my lower sliders. I've been thinking of just hitting them with a rattle can just to black them out, but really don't want to dick them up, so will probably just leave them as they are.

Joe, I noticed a little rust built up on my rotor over the summer while I was gone, I'll have to brush it up a little.

Ackman, my front end was from an '02 FLSTF ... I don't think they changed from '02 to '05. As I mentioned, I have to remove (with a grinder) some more material where the fork stop meets the frame.

I've got a set of stainless steel upper sliders, but there's a dent in one of them. I don't really want to ride without the upper sliders since there's no 'dust cover' at the top of the lower slider to keep out any water or debris.

Not sure what the tire is ... I'll post a reply tomorrow evening when I have a chance to look at it. It's a Dunlop that comes stock on FLs to my knowledge.

More to follow ....
