Took off earlier and noticed a knocking that sounded like it was coming from the front cylinder, not sure. A few days back I started to notice a little more vibration than usual wondering if that might have something to do with it. I put fresh gas in and only run the highest octane, let it warm up real good and the knock never went away. I'm letting it cool down now before I go back out and see what else I can find.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Livi,
Not sure how your's sounds, but I had a lifter going bad on my 08 Lowrider a couple weeks ago.
The knock was more pronouced when the bike was cold.
After warm up, it calmed down a little but never fully went away. You could also hear it pretty noticeable when pulling in the clutch to up or down shift.
Sounded like a hammer lightly tapping on the case.
Mild ticking is normal but this was not normal.
Took to the dealer, they said it wasn't right. Ended up replacing all the lifters.
Sure glad it was under warranty.
I figured it out. I suspected something with the exhaust but wasn't sure, well I was right the knock was the exhaust. The two bolts holding the rear exhaust pipe on,one was gone the other was loose. I have a few more miles before my tune up on it,I think for now on I'm gonna double check my self a little closer.
I am a Quality Control Technical Inspector for the armys OH-58D helicopter. Been working on this bird a lot of years now. I have seen a lot of things after a bird comes back and its like man I cant belive they made it back alive. Point is vibrations can do a lot to nuts and bolts and screws. We safety wire a lot of stuff on our aircraft. Be argessive and progressive in your bikes maintenance. Take the time once a week or so. Put a wrench on the bolts a screw driver to the screws. Front to back. But then again I have a little OCD. LoL
I'm also a helicopter wrench and when I was racing I drilled and safety-wired or cotter-keyed almost everything on the bike, having something come loose 50 miles out in the middle of the desert wasn't my idea of fun. Check things real regularly
what kind of a riding adventure doesn't have you along the side of the road looking for the piece that just fell off...
I loosen **** up just to pizz my wife off... nothing like making her look for a nut that I have a duplicate of stashed in my pocket...
Also. this way we never get far enough to notice that our seat is uncomfortable for long distance...
