I did not think the stroke had any bearing on what kind of oil I use. I added 1/4 quart Lucas synthetic oil treatment. This seems to have raise the compression up and stop burning oil. The way I was told that the synthetic will not stay on the piston there by causing damage to piston and rings. Piston speed with a 4.5 inch stroke at 6500 rpm is lot higher then stock.
It's all up to you, some like syn some like fossil. I run fossil but have heard good things about syn. Personally I change my oil more than the average person does in both my bike and truck. Price wise it works out to be the same, I know syn will last longer but I prefer having fresh oil in every 1500-2000 miles.
LOL...there will always be differnet opinons regarding oils...a friend of mine that's been riding H-Ds for years and has a HD drag bike as well, told me I made a big mistake putting Amsoil 20/50 in the motor, primary and Red Line in the trans on my 1000 mi. service.
He's a pretty good wrench turner and swears against using syn oils of any kind in any H-D bike....he kinda' scared me.
I believe in new Fossil Oil every 2500 miles. Being that it is cheaper, it is less $$$ to do therefore can be done more often.
54 years old... Never an engine (of any kind) problem. No synthetic for me. Prolly never will change my mind either unless I get some solid proof from oil engineers. I haven't heard that yet.
I run mobil 1 15-50 $26 for 5 qts at wally world was running mobil 1 vt before, but 15-50 is same package and a lot cheaper.I run shell rotela T in othere two holes
This isn't even open for discussion. From lawn mowers to 8,000 hp NHRA dragsters, synthetic oil has been long ago been proven in the lab, on the street and on the track to be a better lubricant than non-synthetics.

I have run Amsoil in all my cars, Porsche's & BMW's and I ran them hard...never had a problem.
So I have gone to AMS for the WG as well
Correct me if I am wrong but i thought all engines run cooler on SYN?
And isn't heat a main culprit of failures?

I don't think a water cooled motor will necessarily run cooler with the synthetic.. our air cooled motors do run cooler. Also as heat climbs over 225ş the synthetic holds up and does not break down near as easily as fossil oil. I use fossil fuel in my cars and synthetic in my air- cooled harley. If I had a vrod I would use fossil as well.
