Got myself an adjustable highway peg mounting kit (p/n 49002-98) for my '09 Super Glide from someone on eBay. Only problem is, he didn't sell the bolts(?) that come with the kit new.
Looking on the frame where each mount goes, on my bike I have some kind of plastic-looking plug in each hole. How do I get this out?
Next question is, does anyone know the size and thread of the bolt I need? Should I also use lock washer(s)? Hardened would be the best thing to get, and I should be able to find what I need at the hardware store, I just need to know what I need to get when I get there.
On my bike the plugs where actually pieces of all thread (for lack of a better word) removable by hex key. check and see if you can some how spin the plugs off, they might be the same thing as mine. If your adjustable pegs mounts are like mine you will only be using one actual bolt and one of the pieces of "allthread" I mentioned before to mount them in place. I did not use lock washers since they tend to look fugly I just used red locktite to hold things nice and snug.
On mine the plugs were just little plastic plugs and you pop them out with finger or a small screw driver. That being said i also had to run a tap in the holes to clean out the paint as my bolts were getting tight as i was threading the mounts on. its late and to many beers to remember the bolt size and tap.
Hey Yonaton. Yeah, mine are the plastic plugs. They should come out easily. I'd recommend red locktite if you never intend to remove them or blue if you think you might someday.
IMHO, working on your scoot is really rewarding and I would encourage you to do as many of your mods as you're comfortable with. Good luck and ride safe.
Are the adjustable ones adjustable because you can put them in either hole and tilt them up or down? Is there a chance that these adjustable pegs will move if you put any kind of weight on them? I see that #49019-95 has two holes. Would these be more stable?
Thanks for all the answers. I believe everyone covered all I needed to know. 20LowRider02, maybe you should go where ignorant slobs like me and the kinds of questions I ask won't bother your ego so much.
