had V&H slip ons... and they sounded GREAT! I upgraded to some Short Shots and I like those as well... but this past weekend I tweaked my PCIII and took out one of the baffles and I'm much happier with the sound.
unless you're racing, you shouldn't notice the loss of power.
I've got my slip ons just sitting in the garage, need to post them up for sale.
That's interesting. I just bought a new '08 Street Bob and was pleasantly surprised at the sound of the stock pipes, to the point that I don't feel any desire to change them out for anything louder (whereas on my Nighster, the stock pipes were so wimpy it was pathetic and I simply could NOT live with the stock pipes). Others have commented that they think my bike has a great sound for stock as well. Was anything done differently in '09 from '08? Just curious.
i have an 08 bob i knocked the plug out with a piece of rebar the sound wasnt that noticable, spend the money and do it right.......my opinion i have short shots fuelpak and big sucker sounds good at idle...sounds great at acceleration..
The cool thing about the 09 Street Bob exhaust is that you don't have to use a hole saw to drill out the baffles. There are 3 rivets in each muffler. Take the lower bracket that holds the mufflers together off, loosen the muffler clamps, and remove the mufflers. Now take a 1/4" bit and drill each rivet. The 1/4" bit just drills the rivet and not the pipes. That way you don't go through the factory chrome. Now on the small opening end, take a broom stick and nock the baffle out. Take out the cloth, put it all back together and you're set. It didn't mess with the low end torque on my bike and the dealership said it won't void the warranty. The nice thing is that if you don't like it without baffles just get some nuts and bolts, repack the baffles, slide them back in, and secure with the new nuts and bolts. I plan on getting V&H big radius, stage 1, and USB power commander but this is a quick fix until I get the $1200 for that.
There is a post on here by Gary7 and he was able to use Cycle Shack baffles in the 09 Bob mufflers. Find that and it sounds like an inexpensive fix to the sound issue.

Thanks, I just went out and used a rod to pound out the plug on the muffler's of my '08 Street Bob, 103ci. No difference in performance but now the people not paying attention while driving and talking on their Cell Phones can hear me. It sounds perfect, has a little throat growl but not so load it wakes the babies when I leave.
