I just upgraded to SE II's, H-D high flow intake and rejetted the carb. The bike runs great and can't believe I rode it stock for 7,000 miles. (2005 FXD) After the upgrades were completed I started playing around with the stock cover and realized that my skull cover fits perfectly over the new filter. Are there any drawbacks to running the bike this way? I rode it to work today and did not have any problems. I also got caught in the rain on the way home and wondered if rain would be a problem.
Thanks for any comments or recommendations....
Sorry for the quality of the pics, just ran out to the garage and snapped them real quick................
I have the K&N and am running the same setup. I'm actually kinda annoyed looking at your picture cause you have the HD high flow and yours is black. I have the same one, and it's blue...and it totally didn't match my bike. That's the only reason I bought the K&N. From what I've been reading, there were some problems with the HD filters (although I can't confirm that)...so you still might want to consider a K&N...it's K&N part number HD-0800
Anyway...I had a Yamaha before I bought my Harley, and I ran it with an open element filter just like this, and never had a problem..rain or shine. I would be a little concerned if you're in the rain all the time...but I'm not certain a little rain should be a concern. Either way, it's not a concern for me, cause I don't even consider riding in the rain. Just not for me.
