Seems that you can add an air filter and pipes and the ecm will auto adjust within 10-15 minutes of running the new setup. It does adjust to the 14.5:1 ratio like the stock bikes have though. Guess you can do a stage 1 and not remap or buy a tuner as long as you don't mind running factory lean.
07 Ultra, S/E a/c, S/E pipes, no tuner, runs great. My dealers service manager told me a tuner was a waste of money. He said a tuner and Dyno wouldn't improve performance enough that you could tell. I know a lot of people will disagree with this, but it works for me.
Interesting. I was told by the tech guy at Supertrapp that I could change pipes all I wanted, and the ECM would adjust, like you say... but not the airbox.
I talked to the tech at the local Harley dealer, and he agreed. Seems that the computer is much more flexible than before.
Man... fuel injection sure makes a man lazy, don't it?
Not only my dealer, American Iron Magazine has also found this to be true, and have stated such in the magazine several times. Of course this is only applies for bikes with O2 sensors, and keeps the air/fuel ratio to company spec's.
I got Se stage 1(wasted money on download) Xied's and stock headpipes with V&H slip ons, runs ok, still surges a bit when taking it easy, blip it though, and runs nice (nice enough for me)...
its cold here now, so i cant tell on the heat output, but it definatly runs better with the stage 1 and xied's(put them on togeather)..
I hope it does correct, I want to chage pipes when funds allow, and it would be nice for once if it didnt cost more than the normal arm...
So, if I read this right...I just put on Cycle Shack slip-on's (love the sound) and want to add a Stage 1 a/c then I do not need the MAP? I have a 2009 FXD.
wow weird... when i did my pipes and a/c "the first time" i had SE slip ons and stage 1... bike ran OK... popped like crazy... so i tuned it in... ran 10xs better... granted mine is an 06... ran into the same issues when i swapped pipes again... wonder what the changes are... they are the same ECM
