Default Shock adjustment

I have a 2009 FXD and have never adjusted the shocks whether riding 2 up or alone...should I buy the tool and be adjusting them?

I left mine in the middle. I'm 5'10" and 175. It is fine there.

I would adjust them and see where you like them the best.

As for the tool you dont really need it.

An inexpensive Sears, strap wrench is all you need to rotate the shocks. Use the strap wrench on the bottom of the shocks around the holes on the bottom cover. Turn counter-clockwise to reduce preload, turn clockwise to increase preload. Should be five settings total (least preload = 1, most preload = 5).

I use a strap wrench too, it works better than the harley tool and it wont scratch the chrome. I usually make the shocks one click firmer when riding 2 up. It only takes a minute to turn them.

Nothing really wrong with having the right tool, though.

If you plan on changing it alot, get the tool or a strap wrench. I have the dealer change mine to try different settings. Then I leave it there.

the tool is $10. just get the tool. turn the adjustment clockwise to firm up. You will notice an improvement in 2up riding for sure.
