I will be putting apes on this winter. Just trying to decide which ones. I've been searching around the net for a while looking for pics. not many out there. NEW2BAG your bike looks awesome. Nice work. And +1000 for the dark brown saddle idea. Here's the only pic I could find that I've been dreaming over for the last few months. To me it looks like the bars need to be more upright in this pic. Too much pull back I think. What is the right amount? I hope I don't buy the wrong ones.

I built the bars and the seat. The seat was actually really easy. I bought a stock seat from a forum member for $50, I pulled it apart down to the plastic pan. I cut the plastic with some snips to the shape I liked then glued the foam back in place. Then I trimmed the foam with and electric carving knife and smoothed it out with a grinder. I bought a piece of brown buffalo hide on ebay for $20. I used spray adhesive to glue the leather to the foam than cut the leather to the shape of the seat leaving a couple of inches long all the way around. Then I just stretched the leather by hand over the seat and stapled it with a staple gun. I thought the leather was going to be the hardest part but it only took about 15 mins. After buying some mink oil and leather dye I had a home made leather seat for less than $100.

The dye was alittle dark at first so I let it ware a bit before I oiled it.

Here's my setup - 10" high, 1.25" "Fat" bars, "Fat Bar" risers, diamondback cables all around. All of it is HD equipment & I got the whole thing put on the bike before I picked it up, so it's on warranty!

They sit at a great height for my size (5'10") and a little bit of adjustment made them all-day comfortable.

Default Thanks for the great comments

Sorry so long to respond. My wife has sent the last five days in a labor and delivery room in the hospital. Trying to let the baby cook as long as possible. At 34 weeks now. Anyway...

You guys rock. I absolutely love my FB and glad you guys like it too. You are correct the bars were costly especially since they are the second set I bought. The first was a set of Carlini Gangsters, but I didn't like the height. There 13" was more like 16" so I gave them to a friend for his Street Bob. These are 1.5" diameter and basically stock mini apes spec and that made a big difference to me. BR Custom cycles was awesome and made the bars in a few weeks.

The bags I got from a shop Red Hill Custom in Lyons, CO. I can't find the tag off the bag, but the company is on the internet... Ahh found it! http://www.leatherworksinc.com The bags come in a lightly tanned leather, and I used some products from a tack store to dye them to that color. I had to used some sort of leather finish removed to cut the original finish.

The tank panel I made myself out of heavyweight leather I got from Van Dykes furniture restorer. It is from a panel I bought to refinish the seating area of my wife's antique chair. Well you know... priorities. When the idea came to mind the razor knife came out and that was that. Then I burnt the Dark Custom logo in with a wood burning kit.

Now I have to pull that back tire and fix that ridiculous satin silver colored pulley Harley had a brain fart on! Also have a second solo seat I plan to get covered and toolworked to look like a rigid chopper seat. Just not sure who to get to do it.

Also thinking of a Crime Scene Chooper Rapid Headlight, but I am not sure if the diameter is large enough. The black finish with the polished fins is just too cool. What do you guys think of the diameter on a WG front end????

Thanks again and sorry for the long post. 5 days of minimal sleep and I tend to ramble.
