Just finished installing the removable sideplates, backrest, and luggage rack on my Fat Bob What a racket it makes at idle and decel shaking in its mounts. Its a fairly straightfwd install. Is this just **** poor design or am I overlooking something stupid. I absolutely can't put up with the noise. Its quiet with a passenger aboard but thats the only time PLEASE HELP
You have the removable(quick release) right?
I had the same vibration / rattle. Easy cure, i used O rings. I cut them so they would fit on the sideplates then slid the sissy bar into place and locked it home with the catches, it will be tight and you have to apply a lot of pressure but it will go. If you find its too tight reduce the diameter of the O rings little by little until it goes. This is what worked for me.
Good luck
I had to pry mine apart to remove the backrest and reinstall it. Since I added the luggage rack I have to force it together to get it to mount. Very tight fit with no vibration noise that I noticed.
Sorry I can't be of any help.

Actually, I don't have that problem....mine is so damn tight it takes me a few minutes to install it and even longer to get it loose and off without damaging the rear fender. Fortunately, I hardly ever put it on.

Mine didn't start rattling until I ran it for a few thousand miles. Now it doesn't because I put tape in the bushings. Any time I have something tied to it (right now a heavy jacket) it doesn't rattle.

mine fit way too tight. So tight that I had to lean on it the first time putting it on, then I had to use channel lock pliers wrapped in a rag to release the latches to get it off. After that I determined it was just the left side that wasn't lining up on the back pin. I got out the dremel and ground out some of the "U" where it slides on the front peg until it was the proper reach and now it fits like a glove.
With that being said I am super disappointed that HD can't measure correctly themselves and I could have easily scratched up my bike trying to put on a poorly designed part. Also, I do not have the luggage rack. I have no rattle problems so maybe it is the rack part that is rattling for you?
