TINBRIT......
DAMN, I wished I would have posted something sooner about getting the windshield. On 12-2-08, we ordered and paid for it, along with all the other upgrades we're doing to my bike. Our Dealer gives you 25% off if you come in on your actual Birthday and place and pay for all Harley parts at that time. Considering we had over $2500 worth of Harley Parts, we didnt want to pass up that special birthday discount. But thanks for the offer!!!

Cheers,Brit.
Lwos I do have the detachable touring on mine with the larger headlight and windsheild bag. I don't get any but normal buffeting as its pretty windy in Texas.
Hey Domenicp7..... do you have any photos of the front, showing off that headlight and the windshield? Would love to get a sneek peek as to what mine will look like??? Mine's in storage until April, so I wont get to see her until then.
Windshields Buffet. Baggers have the same problem. To me it's the elephant in the room. The only solution I have found is a nose cone type fairing that gradually directs the wind in a different direction kind of like the one in these pictures. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/attac...09_medium_.jpg
They don't block all the wind but they don't buffet either. I'd rather have no windshield than one of the tombstone shaped helmet-beating buffet shields.
I know it's not fashionable to ride with a windshield....but..... this fall, my hubby was riding on the expressway at 70mph when a car flipped up a small pebble, which hit him square on the bridge of the nose. He must wear prescription bike glasses/goggles, but didnt have a face shield on his half helmet. By the time he got to the dealer, blood was all over his face, his jacket and his bike. Thank god it didnt hit him in the eye, or he could have lost control, crashed on the freeway during rush hour and get killed. I've ridden my bike and have experienced the crack of a stone hitting my W/S, and the sound really makes ya think.....but for the windshield, where would it have hit and how much damage could it have caused. From now on, it's going to be either a face shielded helmet or the windshield for him.
I know what you mean. I was riding back from the Rot Rally in Austin this summer shield on and a rock came over the median and hit my shield a big dent I would of hate to see what it would have done if it was not on.
Hey Domenicp7........thanks for taking the time to post the photo. Really looks nice and I cant wait to see mine come spring. I think the larger headlight just makes the bike pop, and ad's more visibility of you to oncoming traffic. I cant wait to try riding with both windshields to differentiate between the two. BTW, are those V&H BBS pipes? I'm having the V&H Q series Double Barrels installed. I was going to get the BSS, but was afraid of how really loud they would be, and although I love the Big Radius, that was way to loud.
Again, thanks for the photo.
What a fun topic.
Well here goes what I have found. I used to have a windvest and I tried everything I could but could not get the buffeting to stop. So I sold it here and bought a Memphis Shades. I spent about 2 hours on the highway stopping and changing the angles and height of it till I got it to the least available buffeting. Then, just for fun I put a tool bag just below my headlight and reduced it further. Then for the hell of it, I bought one of those vest (can not remember the name) that have the flaps where the pockets would be and, dam almost completely illiminated all the buffeting. There is very little at 70mph. One thing that I did discover is that if the wind is blowing at all and one direction and then later at a different direction the buffeting will change in amount noticable. If there is no wind blowing, and I have the above items on or attached the buffeting is nill, to the point that I can wear just a hat at 70mph and it will stay on. Also, I have forward controls and mid pegs on and if I change the location where I am putting my feet from one to the other the buffeting will change.
So there seems to be alot of characterics that go with buffeting and yet no way to completely remove it all together, but there are ways to reduce it to a tolerable level.
Thanks Lwos yes they are the V&H BSS and yes they are loud. That is a great looking Low Rider you have there and the mods on the light will improve the look as well as the function of the light for better visablity for you and others while your riding.
I wonder if changing the shape of the tank would help. Maybe just have some type of little spoiler type thing attached to the front of it. I'd like to see a smoke wand used in an air tunnel to see exactly how that air is moving, and where it's coming from. I tried tracing it with my hand - the wind comes up your gut/chest, and hits you under the chin. As best I can tell, that wind isn't coming up over the tank or from anywhere near the windshield, but, more up over your knees/thighs.
That updraft to me isn't buffeting at all but just a steady wind. Like someone mentioned, just hold your arm across your chest and it vanishes. The Windvest sure makes the ride look more comfortable for those of us with a beard, I may have to score one in the future.
I also like that piece that ord sgt put on his bike but since I have a tool bag below the headlight I don't think it would make any difference for me.
I did note someone said a tank lift also helped and that makes sense if it does catch more air towards the motor.
I guess if the wind really bothers us enough we could always put the bike in a trailer and drive the truck to where we want to go....rotflol!
