Default Powdercoat question.

Was thinking of going the samr route many Street Bob owners have gone and getting my fork lowers/triple trees and handlebars powdercoated black, question is to the folks who have done this...how durable is this finish?Chrome and aluminium is easy to clean, especially all the fly crap in summer and road dirt in winter but how does the powdercoat look like after vigorous cleaning????

Just don't use coarse towels or cloths, the gloss black will show light scratches if you do, but you can always rub it out. Very durable!
JRK has done alot of powdercoating, he might have a better answer for ya!

Agree with Chad here. I've gotten several things PC'd and the finish is very durable. I usually wash the bike, then wipe down those areas with window cleaner and microfiber to get rid of spots.

+2. I believe powder is more flexible than paint, so it stands up to rocks and road grime better.

I was just guessing that it needed more care to clean than chrome but you ever tried cleaning off dead insects of the front of your bike after a 300 mile trip ?I am taking the bike into my local custom shop in january to get the powder coat treatment but had this in the back of my mind..might seem a silly question but dont want to end up pc'ing the bits every year..

no matter how durable the finish you can surface scratch it more easily than chrome... not to worry though, it is durable and very easy to wet sand and buff out.
