Sorry if this has been covered before. I want to run an open a/c on my sb. Right now it has the dry type element that came with the bike #29442-99D. Kn says replacemnt filter should be HD-0800. I was looking at kn # HD-0818 looks like it would be alittle better for open, but dont know if it would work. Or if anyone knows what kn filter to run open and could tell me that would be nice Feels like Im going over all the newbie ?'s like I did when I got my streetglide.
Personally I like the EAAM25 that Amsoil makes, it is in my opine better filtration and you arent sucking air thru oil, better flow. Its expensive though.
When I ran K & N I ran the 0800, it seemed to fit just fine. If you want to spend less I would run the K & N, I think you can get it for around $48 bucks or so, the amsoil filter is around $65.
Yeah thanks. I dont really care what brand kn or amsoil. Just want to run without cover on. Hopefully be able to find a round rainsock to like the heavy breather.
I run rain or shine no rainsock, and I have ridden thru some pretty big thunderstorms.
I havent noticed any great adverse effects. The bike DOES run a little diferent on extemely humid or rainy days but it dont bother me much.
do you have a stage 1? what type of AC are you running... you cna not just run stock open as it is a diff air clearer unless you do some cutting and fab work

Bought this bike used. Just starting to tear everything apart. Believe it has stage 1 download. Has thunderheader pipes and se dry fillter . I list part # in above post. I want to get different filter to run open with no cover plus this filter is coming apart in the back when I took it off tonight which is a common problem with HD filters. When I find a filter to run I also will be upgrading to a PCIII like my other bike.
These things are hard to measure I'm sure, so hard to say which is best. I went with the Zippers Max-Flow filter on my SE backplate. The reason I went this way is the filter is 3/4" wider giving 40% more filter surface area. I assume this means MORE AIR.
my open filter is a K&N... lifetime filter sound good to me.
I have a rain sock as well made for my RSD intake... generic round ones(to fit what you are doing) are out there and are cheap...
