I see 2 kinds of forward pegs (not controls)are available from HD.There's reg.and adjustable, the adjust.are cheaper. They say easy to install, anyone done this? It's probably the only, thing I'll do to the bike.I wonder if adjustable are less $ because they don't have all the hardware? I know pegs have to be purchased separately.
If you are interested I have a set of chrome highway pegs with the foot pegs. I recently took them off and installed forward controls ('03 Low Rider). $80 plus shipping. PM me if you are interested and I will send pics.
i just installed the h-d forward pegs yesterday and they come with all th hardware.... i would recommend the adjustables... they give you two distance options as instuctions show for installation but im sure you could flip the brackets and get more distance???? if youre curious as to how they mount, there is a allen set screw that goes in the lower hole on the frame boss and the attaching bolt goes in the upper hole thru the bracket and the back of each peg mount has set screw holes drilled in bracket but they are not drilled thru, so they look cleaner.........................tim
I don't know if I'd call it particularly easy to switch positions on the adjustable pegs. It's something you could do in your driveway, but not something you'd be likely to do on a whim halfway through a ride.
Be cautious installing the set screws -- the threads in the block they screw into are painted and there's probably a certain amount of crap in there if you've been riding for a while (yes, there are plastic plugs on the part facing you, but the other side of the hole -- yes, it goes completely through the block -- is open to the elements.) After I jammed one, I put the other in by turning the screw half a turn in then quarter turn back then half a turn in, etc. until it got to the right depth. (The other I "made right" with a cut-off wheel. It wasn't going anywhere.)
