With the repairs/upgrades from my accident. Just to remind everyone, I left the freeway and did an endo back in late October.
The front fender had been hit a couple of weeks before while parked and I hadn't replaced it. In the accident the handlebars were bent down on either side of the tank but didn't dent the tank. The windshield did put a small dent (pencil eraser size) in the left front of the tank that I haven't got around to yet but otherwise the tank is fine. the rear fender took a hard hit right on the Motherwell curved luggage rack putting a dent at the rear mounting hole and the license plate mount pushed the fender in. The left rear turn indicator was also broken. At first, I replaced the rear fender with a used one from ebay that is in perfect condition but vivid black, mine is denim.
I also picked up a turn signal assembly from a RKC with the idea of making it fit the fender.
I've got the fender bent to fit the turn signal bracket (used a rose bud on the underside of the fender and just cinched up the mounting bolts and it snugged right in with two new radius @ the mounting point. I beat the dents out of the fender to near perfect and have put two thin coats of bondo on the fender so far. I'll probably put one more coat of bondo on and then glaze it tomorrow and let it set for a day before final sanding in prep for primer.
I bought a front fender blank, a full taildragger 43" end to end, and started doing the mock up on it as the second coat of bondo set. I got it positioned where I want it and drilled the mounting holes and put it back on to mark the radius to trim it to. I got the left side done before it got dark and all in all I'm very happy with what I got done the last two days.
Man, I definitely want to see that in person when you're done. I suspect you'd be in a position to have a sweet ride. If you remember, I had envisioned some taildraggers on my ride. Even designed a bike within an application I found online for $50.
This is a screen shot of what I did. The app isn't extremely bountiful with options but it gave me a visual of what I'd like to do.
Very cool longhair! And for sure you will see it when I'm finished. I'll be putting the miles on it steady and always ready to ride with my bros................... unless I get a job.
Sniper-From what I've seen in your pics the bike is going to look good. I especially like the front fender. It will be unique and and yours when done. Keep up the good work.
A machinist here took a rear fender blank and made a jig to fit a deuce taillight flush into it. If the fender wasn't wider than a stock deuce fender I would have thought it was a stocker.
But really, I'm finding out what my abilities are as I go and doing something like the flush taillight is way beyond my ability and my garage. Heck, I was surprised I was able to do as well as I have trimming the front fender with only a cutoff wheel and a die grinder.
