No need to pull the primary, the shifter lever slides right over the splines, no problem, I put it back on myself....after I broke the linkage.

I was stopping by the stealership a while back I noticed a guy that drove in with the same problem with his, the shift linkage broke right at the heim joint. It didn't sound like he was getting the same deal you got. Wonder if this is a common issue????

I don't know if it's a very common issue, I will have to say that I might have been a bit heavy handed when I was trying to loosen the set screw on the shift lever. However the stock heim joint doesn't seem to be real stout considering the job it does.

That's outrageous! Do they at least give you a bottle of KY before they bend you over?

Dude, I was just commenting that I thought it was a noble offer from the dealer to fix the linkage while it was there for the tire/download.

No problem, I was just concerned with getting work done at the dealership. I know their labor rates are high and have heard some pretty bad stories on how they can put it too you. It did seem like a great deal until they called and told me if I wanted my bike back today I'd have to pay right at $100 for the nifty billit shift linkage.

Angry Grrrrrrrr

It's always something. Just got another call, the fancy shift linkage they have is stock won't fit my bike because of the forward controls. So now I'm gonna have to wait till Tuesday till they get the part in. So no ride for me this weekend.

same exact thing happened with my shift linkage, only I was pulling off the freeway, went to downshift to 5th but the shifter was not there, looked down to see it laying all the way forward. Fortunately the dealer was 1/2 mile up the road so I feathered the clutch with it in 6th and limped right into the service bay, the service guy put it back together and tightened it up, I was back on the road for my weekend trip. didn't cost me a dime. Quaids HD in Temecula, CA, hell they didn't even do any paper work, just shook my hand and wished me a safe weekend trip to Joshua Tree.
