Winter mods
Thought I'd have a little fun today and install some mods. I put on the fins that cover the headbolts, a pair of rear axle nut covers and the smoked turn signal lenses. Not bad installs, but the headbolt covers were a little time consuming because of the confined space. A few other things that i've done over the fall that you can see in the pictures are the air shocks, A/C, derby cover and battery cover. I hope to put on the 2" tank lift and the FXD solo seat soon.

As to the air shocks, i'm not totally happy with them yet. I'm thinking of trying to bleed them and add new oil. I still think they don't have as much oil in them as they should. It slams hard on the freeway with big bumps, feels nice on a smooth road. Sits really low too. And that's with 20psi in them.
As far as the headbolt covers getting hot, i don't know. I started it up afterwards to make sure I didn't mess up the spark plug wires and that's about it.

the covers will get about as hot as the engine.
the smoked turn signals look really good. If you would like them to be darker you can paint the inside of the signals black. I did this to mine and IMHO it really improved the appearance as the bulb is no longer easily visible through the covers (don't worry it still lights up visible enough. You just can no longer see them when the bike is sitting and lights are off)

Here's a close up. This was shot in a dark garage with a flash. Since the covers are new, they don't quite match the moter. That will take a wash and and some riding. But to the naked eye, they are not too far off unlike what the camera thinks.
