Default heat shield cracking.

My Vance & Hines heat sheilds have a crack on them. I called Vance & Hines to see if they will warranty my problem. They said to take a picture of the crack email with the reciept and there should'nt be a problem getting a replacement. However my problem is that when I try to take a picture of the crack the pipes are so shiny that it catches all the reflection of everything around me and you can't see the crack. Any secret of taking a picture off a mirrored object so that I may get the snapshot I need so I can get my Heat shields replaced. thxs

Try spraying the area with something. Maybe hairspray , it sticks and maybe dull it down.
Just an idea.

Set it on a tripod or stationary object and turn off the flash. If you can, try setting it to the dim light mode...the slower shutter speed will allow more light in for a good exposure, and if you've got it sitting on a stationary object (no wobbles whatsoever) it'll be clear as well.

Put a piece of black cardboard directly behind the camera, and angle it so that you block out the light. (black may not be perfect) green may work also. ( eg... construction paper)

Lots of pics with varying lighting and settings. Tripod with manual focus. If all else fails, make the crack more visible. Pry it a little to separate thee metal more.
